Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Google Maps API key?
Basic embedding doesn’t require an API key, but if you need advanced features like custom styling or geocoding, you’ll need to get one from the Google Cloud Platform.
Why can’t I select hybrid or terrain view?
The Google Maps Embed API only supports roadmap and satellite views. For hybrid or terrain views, you would need to use the full JavaScript API with your own API key.
Is there a cost for using embedded maps?
Standard embedding is free with usage limits. High-traffic websites may need to enable billing on their Google Cloud account.
Why isn’t my map showing up?
Check that: 1) Your location is valid, 2) You’re using the correct embed code, 3) Your website allows iframes, and 4) You haven’t exceeded usage limits.
